cee: you’ve given the instruction: remove everything witnessed from the witness. that has been very helpful to me. also the instruction about ‘superimposition’ has helped to clear up the real from the unreal. and it is not like you come back and help all the others. the whole thing is unreal. the greater detachment one has to the states of mind, the greater freedom there is. i still feel effort involved in eliminating the mind. the mind is not yet dead. i don’t understand who could have the effort.
nome: apply that effort in the enquiry, who's effort, "who's mind?" the mind must be for someone. the mind is the modes and states, thoughts etc. it is something witnessed. even the appearance of the mind is witnessed. we want to look at the witness that you mentioned before. divest the witness of everything witnessed. or in the manner of the enquiry "who am i"
if there is a mind, "for whom is the mind" ? as long as we understand and ask "for whom" the quality of reality and identity both, return to the subject. who's mind? the mind is never seen apart from the "i" so the mind is totally dependent on the "i".
the "i" can be without the mind, the mind can not be without the "i". the mind is only for the "i" the mind is made up of "i"--"i" in a myriad of different guises. then find out the "i". as long as effort can be applied, that's good. if you said you could not apply effort, i'd think, this is difficult, this is tricky. if you can apply effort, then you want to apply that effort subjectively. -the "i" whatever is the witness, sees, not only the content of the states, but the states themselves, pass. look into that "i".
if you do so, it's i-ness will vanish and in it's place will be found the real self. like clearing away a vaporous illusion to see what is actually there. you can direct your enquiry for meditation, just like that. if you do so, there won't be any coming back. if the idea of coming back is there, who is coming back?
when the idea of coming back for others
is there,--- others arise only after the "i"
if we see the "i"
as it really is
-there is just one self and no others
or --all are only the one self.
but there is no coming back!
